What PPF actually does

A sacrificial layer of film that absorbs the damage your paint can’t.

Paint protection film is a clear, urethane layer applied over the factory paint (or a vinyl wrap) on the panels that take the worst of the road: hood, front bumper, fenders, mirrors, headlights, A-pillars, rocker panels, door cups. Stone chips, road rash, sand, salt, bug etching, and minor scratches hit the film first. The film’s self-healing top coat then closes most light scratches with heat from the sun or warm water.

Wrapsesh installs Bodyfence PPF, a high-clarity self-healing film that’s chip resistant and ultra transparent (so a coated panel still looks like factory glass). We’ve been a certified installer in the East Valley since 2016, working out of our shop in Gilbert.

PPF vs. Ceramic Coating

They solve different problems. A lot of customers run both.

Paint protection film is a physical barrier. It’s a thick, clear urethane that takes the hit from a rock and self heals minor scratches. Ceramic coating is a chemical layer (much thinner than PPF) that bonds to paint or film and makes the surface hydrophobic, easier to clean, and more UV resistant. Ceramic doesn’t stop rock chips. PPF doesn’t give you the glassy slick finish that ceramic does.

The combination most performance car owners ask for: full front end PPF, then ceramic coating over the entire vehicle (including the film). Film for the chips, ceramic for the easy washes and gloss. We do both under one roof.

Why Bodyfence PPF

Six reasons we install this film.

Before · After

A factory hood, and the same hood under Bodyfence film.

Bug strikes, sand, and stone chips on the left. The right panel has Bodyfence PPF applied. Same paint underneath, fully protected, and the film is invisible under shop lights.

PPF FAQs

The questions we get most.

How long does paint protection film last?
Bodyfence PPF is engineered for long-term outdoor use. With routine washing and ceramic coating on top, most installs hold up cleanly for 5 to 10 years before the film is worth replacing. Arizona sun is hard on every coating, so we recommend an annual visual inspection at our Gilbert shop.
Does PPF yellow over time?
Older generations of film yellowed. The Bodyfence film we install today has a stabilized top coat designed to resist UV yellowing through its expected service life. It stays clear, which matters in the Phoenix sun where vehicles see direct exposure year round.
Can PPF be removed without damaging my paint?
Yes, when it’s removed by a trained installer on factory paint in good condition. PPF lifts off cleanly with controlled heat and pulls any embedded chips or contaminants with it. We don’t warranty removal on aftermarket repaints or panels with existing damage, so flag that at the consult.
Can PPF go over a vinyl wrap?
Yes, and it’s one of the most common combinations we install. PPF over a color-change wrap protects the wrap film from chips and abrasion, especially on hoods and bumpers. Plan the layering with us at the start of the wrap project so the edges line up cleanly.
Does PPF have to cover the whole car?
No. Most of our PPF installs are partial coverage focused on the high-impact panels: front bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors, headlights. Full-vehicle PPF is available and makes sense for exotics, collector cars, and high-resale builds, but it’s not required to get real protection where it matters.
How do I wash a car with PPF?
Hand wash with a pH-neutral car shampoo, two-bucket method, microfiber mitt. Avoid automated brush car washes and high-pressure spray directly at film edges. Bodyfence film is self-cleaning to a degree, but a regular hand wash keeps it looking factory clear.
Do you also install SLIPLO skid plates?
Yes. SLIPLO Universal Skid Plate is a glossy black polyurethane bumper guard that we add to lowered cars and vehicles that scrape on steep East Valley driveways. Installs with 3M adhesive, no drilling, removable without pulling paint. Often paired with front-end PPF for full chin protection.
